Following his studies at the University of Pennsylvania (including the post of teaching assistant to lauded urban design professor, Edmund Bacon), David Murphy launched his architectural planning and design career with an instrumental role as urban designer for the very successful Camden Yards sports and entertainment precinct in Baltimore. With the planning and architectural firm RTKL at the time, David landed a national AIA award for his planning work on the project.
After joining Ellerbe Becket, he quickly augmented his sports and entertainment planning work with major design roles on the Atlanta Olympic Stadium team and its subsequent conversion into the baseball venue, Turner Field. As principal-in-charge and head of a planning and design team at Ellerbe Becket, David has since led the design of the new Washington State Football/Soccer Stadium in Seattle and the renovation of Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
After almost 10 years at Ellerbe Becket he left an ownership position to become a founding partner of Crawford Architects in 2001. David brings his valuable urban design, sports and mixed-use project design experience with him.
Murphy’s fanatical obsession with music lands him the firm’s Most Outrageous CD Collection Ever award. Though proud of his Iowa farm heritage, he’s seen more of the world than he can shake a stick at.
